OVERVIEW

Arizona Green Power holds the license to a bold new clean energy technology that will provide an abundant source of ‘green electricity’ to California utilities, government entities, commercial and industrial companies and projects. Designed by world-class engineering partners, this patented hybrid solar-wind Downdraft Tower is not only revolutionary in design, but also in cost and durability. Tower construction is priced at roughly 1/3 of, and built to last twice as long as solar and/or wind farms – unheard of among renewable energy technology today.
The technology operates in hot, dry geographic locations. In certain areas where atmospheric conditions are conducive, the exterior of the Tower may be constructed with vertical “wind vanes” that capture the prevailing wind and channel it to produce supplemental electrical power. This dual renewable energy resource greatly enhances its clean energy-producing capability and productivity.

THE PRINCIPLE

  • The Hybrid Downdraft Tower is a hollow cylinder with a water injection system near the top that casts a fine mist across the entire opening.
  • The water introduced by the injection system is absorbed by the hot dry air which has been heated by the solar rays of the sun.
  • Evaporation takes place resulting in the air becoming cooler than the outside warmer air creating winds that fall down through the cylinder at speeds up to and in excess of 50 mph.
  • The winds are then compressed into tunnel openings surrounding the base of the Tower generating speeds in excess of 100 mph inside the tunnels.
  • A patented system of multiple turbines inside the wind tunnels power generators to produce electricity.

DEMONSTRATION

The demonstration to the right depicts the Tower in operation. The color of the arrows represent the current internal temperature of the air which transitions from hot near the top of the Tower to cold as the air rapidly races towards its base.
